Sugar Bush Tours and Pancakes at Richardson's Farm & Market

Come on out to the farm with family and friends to watch the sap be boiled and enjoy some piping hot pancakes, sausage, and pure maple syrup! Take a wagon ride to the sugar bush for a guided tour of how we collect sap, using both buckets and modern pipeline. Be sure to browse around the market before you leave and take some maple syrup or tempting treats home with you!

Approximately 600 trees are tapped during Spring and the watery sap is be magically transformed into sweet maple syrup in the Sugar Shanty. See how sap is magically transformed into sweet, sticky syrup and smell the fragrant steam rising from simmering kettles. Learn the secrets of maple candy making and taste free candy samples. Enjoy piping hot pancakes smothered in fresh maple syrup outdoors under our pavilion nestled in the woods.

Sweet Water Demonstrations at Crawford Lake
February 24 to April 2, 2018
Visit the reconstructed Iroquoian Village and learn how maple syrup was discovered and used by Ontario’s First Peoples as you take in an interactive (and edible!) Sweet Water demonstration. Nostalgia is served warm and gooey in the afternoon as staff demonstrate how to make taffy on snow. Try a tasting flight of different grades and types of syrup before heading to the giftshop to pick up a tasty souvenir.

Bronte Creek's Annual Maple Syrup Festival
March 3 to April 1, 2018
Enjoy a guided tour of  Maple Lane, where interpreters costumed for the 1890's demonstrate different historical ways of collecting and making maple syrup. The tour ends in the middle of Spruce Lane Farm where you can learn how to make fresh maple sugar or enjoy a stick of delicious maple taffy before visiting the various farm animals in the yard. And what's a Maple Syrup Festival without a pancake meal? Welcome spring with a memorable and affordable family experience at the 43rd annual Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival.  We showcase 400 years of the maple syrup history in Ontario through interpretive tours, complete with fireside story telling.  Our Heritage Hall provides a rustic indoor heated meeting space for families and friends.
