Ontario Family Ice Fishing Events 2016




Kids who have gotten hooked on fishing during the warm weather months might love to try ice fishing with a parent. Families can try ice fishing during the Ontario Family Fishing Events. The Ontario Government allows fishing without a mandatory fishing version outdoors card. From February 14-16, 2015 (12:01 am Saturday to 11:59 pm Monday), you can fish without a license. During all other time periods, Canadian residents between the ages of 18 and 64 years must purchase a valid fishing license to legally fish in Ontario.

There has never been a better time to introduce a friend to fishing! Events such as festivals, clinics, derbies, and workshops are hosted across the province. Each event provides a great opportunity to get outside, spend some wholesome time with the family, and develop a strong connection with conservation through the enjoyment of fishing.

Here are some Ice Fishing events being held this February 2015, where you can fish without a license...

Consecon Legion Family Ice Fishing Derby
February 14, 2015 - 12:00 am until 4:00 pm    
Wellers Bay, Bay of Quinte, Consecon Lake, Consecon, Ontario
Prizes are awarded for largest pike and pickerel. Hidden Weights. There will be raffle prizes and also draw prizes for participants. Hot soup available at a minimal cost. Tickets available at Legion for $10 dollars a person. If the ice is not safe, a rubber duckie event will take place instead.

Al's Annual Ice Fishing Derby
February 14, 2015 - 6:00 am until 6:00 pm    
Clarence Point Bay on Ottawa River, Rockland, Ontario
Fish for Walleye and pike. Adult $20 per person and $2 for kids under 12 years old. Registration ends at 2:00 pm. Prizes and gift table handed out at 6:30 pm. Ice hut rentals are available upon reservation.

Valens Lake Annual Ice Fishing Derby
February 14, 2015 - 6:00 am until 2:00 pm    
Valens Lake Conservation Area, Cambridge
Ice Fishing Derby for bluegill and crappie species will take place on Saturday, February 14. The event takes place from sunrise until 2:00 pm. Lots of prizes to be won for the top number of catches. For more information, please call Valens Lake at 905-525-2183 or 519-621-6029.

2nd Annual Wellington Street Sportsmen's Club Family Ice Fishing Event
February 16, 2015 - 10:00 am until 2:00 pm    
Wellington Street Sportsmen’s Club, Dorchester, Ontario
Everyone is Welcome! A limited number of fishing rods/reels are available for use so please feel free to bring your own. Fish for pan fish and bass on our beautiful 1 acre spring fed pond. Lots of prizes for the kids!
