Family Snowshoeing Adventures




Snowshoeing is a wonderful way to get out into a snowy landscape while enjoying nature and hiking with the kids. Snowshoeing allows you to see areas of nature that you wouldn't otherwise be exposed to. It's a great form of exercise and creates a sense of adventure. There are many beautiful areas in the GTA where you can snowshoe.

Albion Hills Conservation Area

Crawford Lake
Crawford Lake offers 5 km of trails where guests can discover the origins of snowshoeing in the unique setting of Crawford Lake’s reconstructed 15th century Iroquoian village. Modern aluminum frame snowshoes are available for rent. The park offers Sunset Snowshoe Hikes for families providing an opportunity for groups with children to enjoy a less strenuous hike, snowshoe games and fun nature activities. Also available are Moonlight Snowshoe Hikes for adults (age 14 and up) which offer insight into the history of snowshoeing, provide instruction on snowshoe techniques. This is a more strenuous guided moonlight hike on the Crawford Lake trails. Both experiences end with a tasty mug of hot chocolate and a marshmallow roast around the campfire.

Mountsberg Conservation Area
Mountsberg Conservation Area offers 4 km of trails (2 trails). Mountsberg’s trails offer a beautiful snowshoe experience over easy terrain. Bring your own snowshoes and enjoy a day of hiking, then visit the Mountsberg Raptor Centre. Rentals not available.

Guided Night Snowshoe Hikes at Scenic Caves Nature Adventures
Strap on your snowshoes for a night-time hike, where stars and shadows create a dramatic setting for adventure. Professional staff members guide your group on a 1 ½ to 2 hour romp through an enchanting winter wonderland. Experience beautiful trails that wind through a mature forest of 100 foot tall trees, sparkling views of the countryside at the Suspension Bridge and breathtaking lookouts from the top of the Niagara Escarpment. No experience is required and the pace is moderate. Recommended for ages 8-10 and older. Until March 18.

Snow Valley offers 14 km of trails. Enjoy the white trees, the soft landscape, and all the fun of playing in the snow. With lots of trails accessible to beginners and more challenging ones, there is something for everybody in snowshoeing. Whether it is for a family outing, a come back to nature or a school activity, snowshoeing at Snow Valley will be a success for everybody.

Wye Marsh Snowshoe EcoTours

Enjoy a 3 hour, 4 km snowshoe trek into the woods of Wye Marsh. Along your journey you will traverse a trail that is not open to the public, have the opportunity to see many animal tracks and signs present while being followed by hungry chickadees that will eat right out of your hand! Cook some bannock over the flames and have some hot cedar tea. January 14th, 21st & 28 only from 1pm to 4pm. No snowshoeing experience required, but please note that the trail conditions are considered moderate and at times 'off the beaten path'. Must be at least 12 years of age.
