James and the Giant Peach at YPT

Prepare for an adventure of enormous proportions… James and the Giant Peach returns due to overwhelming demand!

Young People’s Theatre (YPT) is thrilled to present Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach by Tony Award-winning Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. This rollicking musical version of the beloved children’s classic returns to YPT due to overwhelming demand after a sold-out run in 2014. Presented on the Mainstage from February 6 to March 18, James and the Giant Peach is directed by Nina Lee Aquino and features a cast of eight stellar performers.

Lonely young orphan, James Trotter has been taken in by the only relatives he has – his outrageously overbearing aunts – but they treat him more like low-paid help than family. When he’s ordered to chop down their scraggly old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that accidentally grows the world’s largest peach containing the biggest insects ever seen – and so begins an adventure of enormous proportions! In keeping with YPT’s season theme “no one is alone”, James finds himself cast in the role of peacemaker among the group of human-sized insects with their over-sized grievances. With this collection of entomological misfits, James discovers that loving families are built in many forms. Join him and his delightfully disparate chosen family for their perilous, peachy escape towards happiness. And be sure to look for the giant peach on YPT’s roof!

Directed by Nina Lee Aquino, James and the Giant Peach features: Bruce Dow, Amir Haidar, Shruti Kothari, Amy Lee, Robert Markus, Matthew Nethersole, Amaka Umeh, Jennifer Villaverde.

The Creative Team includes: Musical Director Jason Jestadt; Choreographer Nicola Pantin; Set Designer Teresa Pryzbylski; Costume Designer Joanna Yu; Lighting Designer Rebecca Picherack; Sound Designer Derek Bruce; Stage Manager Andrea Schurman; Assistant Stage Manager Emily Mewett.
