Santa Trains at York Durham Heritage Railway

We have received news from the North Pole that Santa will be joining us on our decorated and heated heritage train! This popular train ride is a great family holiday experience! Enjoy on-board entertainment while waiting for Santa’s arrival. The highlight of the ride is a visit from Santa with each child, big and small.  Upon leaving the train, each child will also receive a gift bag full of goodies. LEGO Mystery Mural Build
November 12, 2018 to December 3, 2018
The LEGO Group is setting out to build the largest mural in the western hemisphere! During three weeks, brick-by-brick, the community will build together to continuously reveal the mural image until the final brick is in place and the ultimate scene is revealed. To ensure that even more children can enjoy play this holiday season, LEGO Canada will donate a LEGO set, for each participant, to the Toy Mountain campaign. The completed mural will be displayed at Nathan’s Philips Square from the 3rd of December to the 23rd. Free.

Light Up The Holidays

Every year in Fairbank Village, we light up the holidays in true family style! We offer free snacks, drinks, and family fun! Of course, we can’t forget the beautiful display and lighting of the Fairbank Village tree at 5:45pm. We have some great free family entertainment this year. GTA Swing Band will be playing from 2-6pm and carolers and surprise characters will be strolling the area. Don’t forgot to get your face-painted and have your picture taken with Santa at our central location! We’re spreading the cheer. We’ll also have smaller event stations at both ends of our area with bouncy castles for the kids and a free treat! Free.

Our signature event allows visitors young and old to tour through the Museum homes that we decorate to reflect a Victorian Christmas. Oil lamps provide the only light in Henry House and looks just as the Henry family would have lit their home back in the 1800’s. Victorian style is everywhere – clothing, music, food, and gift ideas! Be sure to leave enough time for photos with Father Christmas! Flight of White at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory

This truly unique holiday exhibit transforms the tropical butterfly conservatory into a magical oasis featuring 1000’s of additional Rice Paper butterflies flying freely through the Conservatory. With a wingspan of up to 14cm, the Rice Paper Butterfly, a large white relative of the Monarch, is impossible to miss as it floats through the air moving gently from flower to flower. The Flight of White experience also includes lush white poinsettia flowers, 1000’s of sparkling white lights, and soft strains of classical music playing in the background.

In Kudelka's adaptation, E.T.A. Hoffmann's original tale is re-situated in rural 19th-century Russia, a world in which nature and the rituals of farm life are harmoniously and organically entwined. The story centres on a brother and sister, Misha and Marie, and their Christmas Eve dream journey which carries them from their family home through a world of wonders to the glittering winter realm of the Snow Queen and finally to the splendour of the palace of the Sugar Plum Fairy.  Designed to enhance children's experience of the ballet, Nutcracker Story Time is an engaging, interactive telling of the magical holiday story that allows children to have a better understanding of the performance they are attending. 45 minutes before every performance.
