Sunday Best – Fancy Victorian Clothing at the Oshawa Museum

In celebration of our weekly summer Victorian Teas in the Henry House Gardens, the Oshawa Community Museum and Archives presents the exhibit “Sunday Best – Fancy Victorian Clothing” on display until Fall 2008. This exhibit features both men’s and women’s Victorian clothing and accessories, focusing on formal and classy pieces from the Museum’s own collection. Also showcased are archival pieces such as photographic images of people in Victorian attire and advertisements from local Oshawa newspapers. The Victorian period began at the commencement of Queen Victoria's reign in June 1837 and ended at her death in January 1901. The Victorians experienced tremendous changes in the economic, social, cultural and political arena during their age. This also included the area of fashion trends and clothing styles. Our Victorian Teas happen every Thursday in July and August between 11:30am and 1:30pm. The price for admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Tea includes a selection of teas, scones, sandwiches and desserts, and a tour of the museum. Reservations are required.
