The Animal Grossology Exhibit currently on display at the Ontario Science Centre is based on the best-selling, award-winning Grossology book series, by Sylvia Branzei, that explores the yucky side of things in the animal kingdom. Just don't expect to see animals behaving "nicely". It's really more about the disgusting and unpleasant side of creatures. But rest assured, it's all presented in an incredibly fun, interactive and entertaining set-up! Despite the "ewes and yucks", kids will gain some scientific understanding about why animals are slimy, scaly, oozy and stinky. And kids better pay attention - because there's a quiz at the end!
Just a few notable highlights from the many exhibits featured:
• SLIME MAKERS - vote for the slimiest creature.
• DUNG BALL RALLY - where in a cool computer game, kids can push a giant ball of poop through an obstacle course.
• VOMIT SLURPERS - learn all about flies' eating habits.
• BLOOD SUCKER BLOW-UP - test how some icky insects suck up your blood.
• HEAR A COW BELCH - kids can observe the mid-section of a life-size cow to understand why cows toot and burp so much.
• WHO DOODed IT - where kids have to match up animal poop to its rightful owner!
Yes, this exhibit covers everything you ever wanted to know about animal poop and more! Turned off yet? Read more!
Of course, there are heaps of "memorable" scientific facts. For instance, did you know … that a fly pees every 4.5 minutes just about wherever it happens to land (think about that the next time a fly lands on your muffin!); that meat-eating lions have fur in their poop; that dung beetles can clear an entire field of "cow pies" in just 48 hours; that owls barf pellets after they eat that can contain an average of 3 complete animal skeletons. Throughout the exhibit, you will discover many more rather "odd" but interesting tid-bits.
The visit wraps up with a stop at "Let's Play the Animal Grossology Game" where visitors are invited to compete in a trivia game to test their knowledge of the entire exhibit! Remember that quiz we told you about?
This engaging and hilarious exhibit is surely going to be the "talk" at the dinner table for quite some time (and well ... it might be an appetite suppressant too!). You can catch Animal Grossology at the Ontario Science Centre, but only until September 4, 2006. For details, visit: www.ontariosciencecentre.ca.
