Deep Sea IMAX at the Ontario Science CentreBy: Toronto4Kids Deep Sea IMAX, directed by Howard Hall and wonderfully narrated by Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet, is a captivating and beguiling undersea adventure. Audiences will experience astonishing up-close encounters with some of the strangest and exotic sea creatures from the peculiar Fried Egg Jelly Fish to Mola Molas, Green Sea Turtles, Sand Tiger Sharks, Nudibranchs, a 200 lb. Giant Pacific Octopus, and more! There is more diversity here than any place on earth!
The film primarily focuses on the cooperation and relationships that exists between ocean dwellers, how they are connected and how they depend on one another for survival. This is key to a thriving neighbourhood! The film also depicts how nature takes care of itself and how balance is maintained between predator and prey.
Deep Sea was shot in multiple locations around the Pacific waters, from California to Hawaii and from Mexico to British Columbia. During the 40 minutes, you'll witness intriguing and brilliantly coloured coral landscapes. Sixty-seven unique sea creatures are profiled including some never before seen species. Observe a Wolf Eel with a face only a mother could love. Be mesmerized by fleets of flowing elegant jellyfish. Be amazed by a small "Mantis Shrimp" with claws as powerful as a 22-calibre bullet - enough to scare away a giant octopus! Journey through clear blue Hawaiian waters carrying an infinite number of vibrant tropical fish. Become fearful of dark gloomy waters with unsightly night fish, mantas and terrifying squid. Be charmed and amused by underwater "wash stations" where turtles, sharks and fish cluster into designated sanctuaries each to be "scrubbed down" and cleaned by other fish - somewhat like a "Sea Spa".
The movie entertains and enlightens throughout, as it provides a fascinating look at some of our ocean's irreplaceable treasures. You'll be able to explore the vast ocean while discovering the incredible variety of life in the sea. But the film does leave us with an important message: We are taking far more from the ocean than it can give. We are reminded yet again that there are serious threats facing the ocean. Our ecosystems are unravelling as we continue to decimate our fish species…
