Make Mom Feel Special on Mother's Day...

By: Toronto4Kids

On Sunday, May 11, 2008, we celebrate Moms all over the world! This Mother's Day, give your Mom a special treat by letting her sleep in late and by preparing her a cozy Mother's Day breakfast in bed! This breakfast is so delicious and simple that you will look like a top chef! Don't forget to clean up before she gets to the kitchen and make sure an adult supervises you in the kitchen at all times.

Here's a simple recipe for French Toast, with a few Chocolate-dipped Strawberries on the side. Don't forget to include a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice or Mom's favourite beverage! Arrange everything nicely on a tray and add a small vase with a single flower. What better way to celebrate Mom and show her she's the best!

French Toast

Ingredients: 8 slices French bread, 3 eggs, 1/4 cup milk, 1/4 tsp vanilla extract, 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon and a dash of nutmeg.

Preparation: In a bowl, whisk eggs. Add in milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix. Heat butter in large skillet over medium-low heat. Dip slices of bread in the egg mixture to coat well. Place coated bread in skillet. Cook until both sides are nicely browned (2 minutes each side). Keep slices warm in oven until all other slices are cooked. To serve, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or powdered icing sugar. Serve with maple syrup.

Chocolate-dipped Strawberries

Ingredients: 6 ounces chopped semisweet chocolate, 3 ounces chopped white chocolate, 20 strawberries with stems - washed and dried.

Preparation: Put chopped semisweet and white chocolates into 2 separate heatproof bowls and melt in a microwave on low or half power, for 1 minute. Stir and then heat for another minute or until melted. Line a pan with parchment or waxed paper. Holding the strawberry by the stem, dip into the dark chocolate, lift and twist slightly. Set strawberries on the parchment paper. Repeat with the rest of the strawberries. Dip a fork in the white chocolate and drizzle white chocolate over the dipped strawberries. Set the strawberries aside until the chocolate sets, about 30 minutes. Best if served the same day.

Enjoy!
