Toronto Zoo Unveils Plans For Frog Rescue Centre
Conservation In Action - Toronto Zoo Unveils Plans For Frog Rescue Centre
Who: Amphibians and you and your family.
What/Why: Frogs are declining around the world due to habitat loss and a deadly fungus. It is estimated that as many as 120 species may have become extinct since the 1980’s alone. You and your family can assist the Toronto Zoo in its efforts to save frog species. The Toronto Zoo is taking decisive action by building a FROG RESCUE CENTRE. Drop by the Americas Pavilion to check out our plans for this new Centre and find out how you can help. View our Frog Breeding Centre and our tadpole tank, admire several species of rare and beautiful frogs, pop up in our frog dome and make a monetary contribution to our talking frog bank. Learn about some of the other ways the Toronto Zoo is responding to this global crisis including:
o Funding an Amphibian Rescue Centre in Panama. o Breeding over 50,000 Puerto Rican crested toads for release into the wild. o Sending staff into the wild to assess which frog species need help and to assist in rescuing them. Learn about the two keepers who helped in the rescue of Panamanian golden frogs. o Supporting Mexican research projects designed to determine the impact that pollution and introduced species are having on the axolotl.
When: Wednesday, July 2nd to Sunday, July 6th, 2008.
Where: Toronto Zoo – Americas Pavilion. Take Hwy 401 to Meadowvale Road (Exit #389 east and westbound). Go north to Zoo Main Parking.
