Fun Ways with Ice Cream!
By Toronto4Kids
It's still summer time and there are plenty of days left to enjoy what kids love most: Ice Cream! When the weather is hot, we all scream for ice cream! So why not make your own ice cream with the kids and then have fun with it!
Here's a simple recipe that kids can make out of a plastic baggie!
You'll need: 1 Tbsp Sugar, 1/2 Cup Half-n-Half cream, 1/4 tsp Vanilla, 1/2 Cup Rock Salt, Ice, 1 Pint (Medium) Ziploc Bag and 1 Gallon (Extra Large) Size Ziploc Bag.
Instructions: Combine the sugar, half-n-half & vanilla in the pint size Ziploc bag and seal very tightly. Combine the ice and rock salt in the large Ziploc bag. Place the small bag inside of the larger bag and seal. Shake the bag until the mixture turns into ice cream! This will take about 5 minutes - the kids can each have a turn. (If it's too cold, have them - wear gloves.)
This ice cream will be soft so you may want to have the kids eat it outside. Add fun toppings and enjoy!
Fun ways with ice cream:
Ice Cream Sundae Bar Make a sundae bar and have the kids create their own frozen concoction. Have toppings available such as candy pieces; coloured sprinkles and shapes; candied sugar; chocolate, maple or peanut butter chips; caramel or chocolate syrup; shredded coconut; cookie crumbles; dry cereal or granola; fresh fruit; M & M's or Smarties; marshmallows or marshmallow fluff; nuts, or toffee pieces.
Ice Cream Cookies Have the kids sandwich their ice cream between 2 of their favourite cookies. Bake cookies extra large!
Cool Cones Splurge on waffle cones or better yet, make your own! Stick a mini-marshmallow at the bottom of the cone so the ice cream does not leak! Fun for Kids: use fruit roll-ups to create your own cone and freeze so they become firm. Eat quickly as they will soften.
Summer Shakes Grab your favourite ice cream flavour, add a touch of milk and throw in some fresh summer fruit for a great shake!
Eatable Ice Cream Bowls Scoop out your favourite muffin or cupcake and fill it with ice cream! Don't forget the toppings.
