New Art Exhibit ‘Bears’ Witness To The Affects Of Climate Change
Toronto Zoo is displaying Oshawa artist Erica Ann Gajewski NEW art exhibit “Thin ICE” in the Education Foyer.
On display from July 28th to January 2009, “Thin ICE” is at the Toronto Zoo to help generate awareness about the affects of climate change and to promote 2008 as Year of the Polar Bear.
This display of life vests made to fit the average polar bear family depicts Ms. Gajewski’s thought-provoking response to climate change and its rapid affect on sea ice loss in the Arctic. This rapid loss of sea ice is becoming an imminent threat to polar bear survival. Accompanying the life vests are a series of prints from the Artic Ambassador Gallery taken by National Geographic photographer Daniel J. Cox. These stunning photographs capture the scientific fieldwork of Dr. Steven Amstrup, Senior Polar Bear Biologist for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) on polar bears in the Southern Beaufort Sea.
