Uxbridge MazeBy: Toronto4Kids Coopers Goat and Veggy Farm is a full working farm, located in the northwest Uxbridge Township. But beyond the over 40 acres of fruit and vegetables and the 300+ goat herd, there's a pretty neat attraction there that keeps visitors coming back … It's the Uxbridge MaiZE!
Come and enjoy the thrilling experience and challenge of walking through a corn maze. A cornfield maze is a connection of groomed trails that change direction countless times (from an arial view, the field will represent an actual image). Be ready to puzzle your way through this life-size corn maze - 10 acres to be precise. There is corn everywhere, way above your "ears". At the time of our visit, the stalks were 12 feet high!
Each year brings new adventure, challenges and fun for all ages as the maze theme is changed. The 2008 theme is "Fresh from our Farm" - an image depicting a farmer and veggies. To follow this year's theme and to make your adventure more fun, signs with farm anecdotes and clues designed to steer you in the right (or wrong) direction have been placed strategically throughout the maze. So brush up on your farm trivia - if you get the answer correctly, you are guided in the proper direction to exit the maze; get it wrong and do a few more circles! The maze can be completed in as little as 30 minutes, if the correct pathways are followed, although the majority of participants require about one hour.
Past themes have included a map of Canada with questions about our country on the sign posts, and last year, the maze represented a veggie rock band saying "Local Produce Rocks!", with questions about Ontario produce.
For those adventurous at heart, you can also conquer the corn maze in the dark. In late summer, the maze begins to offer after-dark expeditions on Saturday nights. Wind your way through the maze by flashlight in total obscurity! Or be guided by the moon, during their Full Moon Maze on nights scheduled by Mother Nature. There is also a kid-friendly trick or treat maze during Halloween. No scary spooks… just costumed fun and treats for the kids.
Beyond the corn maze, there is more to enjoy. Check out hay rides, mini-mazes, the corn box and the pumpkin patch. Take the wagon ride and see one of the biggest goat ranches around. Stop by the market where you can get the best corn ever, along with harvest vegetables, melons, pumpkins and more. Its local food at it's best!
You'll be sure to have lots of good old fashioned farmin' fun. And no worries - if you really get lost in the maze, do not give up hope… the farm will be harvesting in November and they will find you then (just teasing!). The Farm is located at 266 Ashworth Road, close to Zephyr, and Mount Albert. For more information, visit: www.uxbridgemaze.ca. But, hurry - the Uxbridge MaiZE closes Sunday, November 2. And don't forget to visit next year - there's a new maze every season!
