It's Strawberry-Picking Season!

It's Strawberry-Picking Season!

By Toronto4Kids

Strawberries typically peak from mid-June to mid-July depending on the spring weather conditions. Many farms will have a Strawberry Festival, where you can taste all kinds of fresh strawberry foods, pies, jams, cakes - and most commonly, fresh strawberry shortcake. Find a farm that will also offer wagon rides and other activities for kids to make it a fun family day out!

A few tips before heading out to berry pick:

Call before going to the farm for availability and picking conditions. When in season, a large turnout can pick a field clean! Check if the farm supplies containers or if you need to bring your own. Flat containers are better so you don't squish your berries. Go picking early to avoid disappointment.

Wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty without care, and footwear that is comfortable for walking. Bring drinks and snacks; you may work up a thirst and appetite! Don't forget hats and sunscreen for the sun. Bugs usually aren't a problem, but some bug repellent might be good to bring along if it has been rainy.

So go strawberry picking and have fun getting a little messy together! It's a great way to connect with children of all ages.
