Water Park Survival Tips

Water Park Survival Tips

By Toronto4Kids.com

This summer, many families will be hitting water parks to beat the heat! Water parks can offer tons of aquatic fun and excitement for the entire family. Here are a few water park survival tips as you take on those raging waters and plummeting slides!

1. Wear flip-flops or water shoes
Many water parks have rough surfaces so watch out for your kids' tender feet and toes. Children should be in water shoes to avoid injuries. Check if the water park allows footwear first!

2. Wear UV protecting sunglasses
The sun can be equally damaging to your eyes and the glare from the sun will be overpowering at water parks.

3. Wear Light Colored T-Shirt
In addition to sunscreen, wear a white t-shirt or UV protecting swimwear to protect the skin. Sunscreen may also fade away with all the water and activity. Dark colors attract the sun so choose white, which reflects light.

4. Spot your kids in a crowd
Have children wear a bright coloured UV swimsuit or UV hat so you can quickly identify them.

5. Don't Leave Valuables Unattended
If possible, get a locker to store and protect valuables. If you don't want to pay for a locker, keep your money, credit cards, and ID with you at all times. You can also buy a small waterproof container that can be secured to your body for these important items. Leave your non-essentials at home!

5. Go Early
As with most amusement parks, beat the crowds by arriving early.

6. Bring all Essentials
Sunscreen, water, a light coloured shirt, hat, towels and sunglasses.

7. Water Safety
Make sure you can swim and always stay with a buddy. Parents should supervise children at all times. Some facilities provide life jackets at no charge or for a nominal rental fee. If you cannot swim, wear a life jacket. Read all posted signs. Follow the rules and directions given by lifeguards. Ask questions if you are not sure about a correct procedure. Check for height restrictions. Never slide down head first.

8. Stay Hydrated!
Drink at least half a cup of water every half hour to an hour and make sure your kids do too!
By following these simple rules you can enjoy some relaxing and refreshing H2O fun!
