The Markham FairBy: Toronto4Kids
This past weekend, thousands braved the cold to take part in a Markham annual tradition - the Markham Fair. A visit to a Fall Fair is an experience most people carry with them from their childhood. From sticky cotton candy and hot dogs, to rides on the Ferris wheel, these memories of a good old-fashioned country fair can be revisited at the Markham Fair.
As one of Canada's oldest and largest country fairs, Markham Fair draws over 60,000 visitors. Since 1844, it has provided the community with a showcase for talents and products in a friendly competitive spirit. Approximately 3,000 exhibitors enter more than 12,000 items, which are judged and put on display during the event. The community is further brought together to enjoy various forms of entertainment such as the demolition derby, horse shows, midway rides, displays of farm animals, traditional country fair exhibits, and let's not forget the fabulous foods.
Then there are the old standby favorites, such as arts and crafts displays, art shows, photo exhibitions, garden show, and of course, the many competitions to enter your art, antiques, baked goods, livestock, and even your family pet!
Entertainers roamed throughout the grounds including Doug The Great, Silver Elvis, Gingerbread Man, Travellin' Riverboat, Trulee Odd Show plus, there was entertainment to satisfy all - Duck & Pig Races, Pony Rides, Newborn Farm Animals at Old MacDonald's Farm, Face Painting, Live Country & Rocks Bands, Concert Bands, Canine Flyball & Agility Demonstration, Precision Motorcycle Demonstration, a Midway, Monster Truck Rides, a Rock Climbing Wall and more!
