Birthday Party Themes: Host a Face Painting PartyBy Toronto4Kids
Face painting is a fun activity that you'll often find at festivals and fairs, during the summertime. But it's also an activity that you can do yourself - and it's perfect as a theme for DIY birthday parties!
This easy face paint recipe allows you to make homemade face paint, using ingredients you'll have at home.
Materials for the paint:
· 1 tsp. Cornstarch · 1/2 tsp. Cold cream · 1/2 tsp. Cold water · Food coloring
Items for the party:
· Facial glitter to add pizzazz to your face paint design · Chairs for painters and those being painted · A mirror to show kids the result of your artwork · Baby wipes for cleaning up smudges and getting paint off hands
Instructions: Mix the ingredients together and paint away! Use cold cream to wash off the face paint.
Tips:
- Practice a few days ahead of the party (even on yourself!). - Always start with a clean face. - Apply thin layers of paint and allow them to dry in between colors. - Have lots of brushes, sponges and containers of water on hand. - Use different sponges to avoid having to rinse after each colour. - Only use a little water, to allow paint to spread smoothly and minimize use of water when applying paint to a larger area. - Use a paintbrush for finer details. - The easiest way face paint is to apply color to the entire face and then add simple details, accents or sparkles.
It's best to inform parents ahead of time that you are hosting a face painting party in case of skin allergies. Do not apply paint on kids with cuts or rashes.
Quick ideas:
Girls: hearts, stars, flowers, butterflies, ladybugs, smiley face, animal faces, cat Boys: pirate, spider, spider web, scars, mustach & beard, monsters, animal faces, dog * Print a copy of designs you think yuo can handle and have the kids choose their design.
And don't forget to keep the kids busy…
It's important to plan other games and activities for the kids to do while you take them one at a time for face painting. Have some temporary tattoos on hand for kids which they can have fun applying. Consider taking a digital picture of each child - so buy some unfinished frames, which they can paint and decorate, to display their photo.
Kids and parents alike will be amazed at the spectacular results!
