CN Tower Goes to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games!

February 12-28, 2010

Vancouver Attendees Use Brainwave Technology to Light up CN Tower in Toronto

February 2, 2010 (Toronto, Ontario)  The CN Tower will be at Ontario House in Vancouver during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games as part of a unique installation that celebrates Ontario innovation and ingenuity.

Visitors to Ontario House in Vancouver will have a unique opportunity to participate in InteraXon’s Bright Ideas, a thought-controlled computing installation.  Visitors will don headsets and use their brainwaves to manipulate the intensity of the light shows on the iconic CN Tower in Toronto, more than 3300 km away, as well as two other major Ontario landmarks - the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, and Niagara Falls.  This innovative technology is provided by InteraXon, an Ontario based company that is pioneering the use of brainwave controlled experiences.

“The CN Tower has been a symbol of Canadian ingenuity since it first opened in 1976.  The CN Tower has fostered a legacy as a hub of leading edge tech activity and we are delighted to use our innovative LED lighting system to showcase this Ontario-led innovation to the world”, says Mark Laroche, President and CEO of Canada Lands Company, the owner and operator of the CN Tower.

“Visitors to Ontario House will experience a unique personal connection to the CN Tower over 3300 km away and be reminded of the world class attractions that can be visited in Ontario.  We are also delighted to bring all those within sight of the Tower watching the light shows a special connection to the events taking place at Ontario House at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games”, adds Jack Robinson, CN Tower Chief Operating Officer.

Live one-way video will allow visitors in Vancouver to see their effect on the CN Tower in Toronto while everyone within sight of the Tower in Toronto will experience the dynamic lighting effects firsthand.

Also throughout the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, during any breaks to the above special lighting program, watch for the CN Tower lit in gold as a tribute to all Canadian Olympic athletes!

How it works:
The Ontario House installation will operate each day from 10am – 8pm PST (11am – 11pm).  Participants don a special headset that measures specific brainwave activity.  Following a brief five minute training session, the system reads the brain activity and translates it into data that is communicated via internet to the CN Tower’s lighting systems in Toronto, Ontario.  This information triggers a series of preprogrammed lighting effects on the CN Tower.  The more brain activity, the faster and more dynamic the light show on the CN Tower.

About the CN Tower Lighting
With the installation of innovative programmable LED exterior lighting in 2007, the CN Tower literally lights up the Toronto skyline each night vividly illuminating the structure in Canada’s official colours of red and white.  The technology features 1,330 LED fixtures that are energy efficient and cost effective to maintain. The system’s full capabilities are demonstrated during a spectacular light show at the top of every hour each night.  Throughout the year the CN Tower lighting program recognizes citywide events, charitable events and causes, seasons and special holidays.
