Family Fun Fridays at Ontario’s Legislative Assembly
July 19 to August 30, 2013

Family Fun Fridays offer the opportunity to explore Ontario’s historic Legislative Building and learn how Parliament functions on a daily basis. Children aged 6-10 are welcome to participate in a scavenger hunt throughout the grounds, dress up in official robes for a mock debate, and ask as many questions as possible.

Artfest Toronto
August 3 to 5, 2013

Artfest Toronto is a celebration of artists and artisans from across Canada. This juried outdoor show will feature 85 artists at the Historic Distillery District for three days only. Come stroll the cobble stone lanes and explore the beauty of the District. Offerings include pottery, glass, jewelry, artisan clothing, paintings, photographs, wood products, gourmet foods, live music, and much more.

Kids will learn how to build a Load 'n Go Truck with easy to follow step-by-step instructions. A great free activity for children ages 4-12.

JerkFest: Jerk Food Festival

Jerk Food Festival 2013 is celebrating its 12th anniversary and you are invited! Come and indulge in a wide array of jerk foods - if you dare, try the jerk frog legs or jerk alligator! If not stick to the conventional jerk items like jerk chicken, jerk pork, or jerk fish.

POWER KIDS: I Wear My Heart On My Sleeve
August 11, 2013 - 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm

Connecting to ideas of the body and theatricality as presented by artist Jimmy Robert in the exhibition Draw the Line at The Power Plant, kids will explore their own identity by making wearable self-portraits that convey a personal narrative. At the end of the workshop, they can wear their art home.

Celebrate Yonge
August 16 to September 17, 2013

Downtown Yonge transforms this Summer into an outdoor event space, with greenery, patios, games, contests, and more. For four weeks, patios on this strip of Yonge will be extended into the street itself with temporary barriers separating the areas from traffic. There are also 11 themed areas for visitors to explore, like The Funway Zone with life-sized board games and The Red Carpet Zone at the Elgin-Winter Garden Theatre.

Taiwan is a country that offers a rich variety of culture, and Harbourfront Centre spends a few days every year celebrating it at TaiwanFest. This Summer’s festival, a free event that runs at the Centre for a full weekend, is based on the theme “Children of the Ocean.” TaiwanFest features a wide array of cooking demonstrations and live music from some of Taiwan’s top artists.

Tommy Thompson Park Butterfly Festival
August 24, 2013

The 5th annual Tommy Thompson Park Butterfly Festival will celebrate the incredible Monarch migration by welcoming children, families, and nature lovers to learn more about butterfly conservation and biodiversity. Through the many activities, nature hikes, and educational displays, visitors can discover the more than 55 species of butterflies and moths recorded to date at the park.
