Labour Day Weekend at Canada's Wonderland
It's officially the last weekend in August, but fortunately it's a long one! Labour Day weekend kicks off on September 3 and the holiday is bringing fun for the whole family. There are many cool things to do so you don't sit around moping about the end of summer. We've rounded up some great ideas to plan the long weekend!
Looking for a quick family weekend getaway? For those seeking fun and thrills there are plenty of amusement parks and one the country's largest fairs. Centreville Amusement Park, located on the Toronto Islands, is the ultimate summer destination for families with young children. With over 30 rides and attractions, this theme park offers up a full day of family fun. Getting to Centreville on the ferry is almost as exciting as the park itself. You can also head on over to Far Enough Farm where you can interact with mini-potbelly pigs, horses, mini ponies, sheep and much more! While at Centre Island, stop in for a Pirate Ship Adventure. Join the scurvy crew and live the Pirate Life Adventure through Theatre and Cruise. Become a buccaneer with costumes, face paint and a pirate alias. Board the 45 foot Transport Canada certified vessel in search of sunken treasure on this interactive adventure!
If you haven't made the trip to the CNE, there's still time to do so! The Canadian National Exhibition marks the culmination of a spectacular summer in the city of Toronto. New and exhilarating attractions join many returning favourites in the 2016 CNE line-up. The excitement continues until September 5. Not to be missed: The Canadian International Air Show (CIAS) soars over Lake Ontario Labour Day weekend for another awe-inspiring show featuring amazing feats of aerobatics.
Or, you can soak up the last few days of summer at Canada's Wonderland, a 330-acre amusement park located in Vaughan. Canada's premier amusement park features thrilling rides. For the kids, there’s Planet Snoopy. The amusement park also features Splash Works, a 20-acre water park featuring The Plunge, Super Soaker and a Lazy River. Canada's Wonderland will present its spectacular Labour Day fireworks display when the Park closes at 10:00pm on Sunday, September 4. Don't miss The Stars of the Peking Acrobats until the 5th and the Food Truck Festival takes place on September 3 & 4.
And, you don’t need to leave the city to feel like you're getting away. Labor Day weekend brings many top family events picks, including the first ever Downsview Park Ribfest with exciting live entertainment, BBQ ribs, great food and a spectacular midway. There's also Bustkerfest where you can see comedians, contortionists, musicians, magicians, fire jugglers, acrobats, aerial artists, clowns and daredevils. The event features over a hundred of the most extraordinary street performers on earth, as they descend upon Woodbine Park for some serious fun! The event is free and in support of Epilepsy Toronto.
If you're looking for more fun events happening taking place over the long weekend, you'll need to check out Fan Expo Canada. It boasts the largest comics, sci-fi, horror, anime, and gaming event in Canada, the third largest in North America. It is packed with exciting family-friendly activities and celebrity guests.
In the mood for some Exhibits? Don't miss The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! at the Ontario Science Centre which closes on September 5.
