Annie at Young People's Theatre

One of the world’s favourite comic strip characters takes centre stage in this beloved musical – winner of 9 Tony Awards! After escaping the orphanage, Annie sets off in search of her parents. In a series of adventures, the spunky, optimistic redhead dodges the evil machinations of orphanage matron Miss Hannigan, befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and encounters a billionaire looking to improve his image. Some of Broadway’s most popular show tunes, including Tomorrow, It’s the Hard Knock Life and Easy Street are featured in this Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) version of the renowned musical.

Featuring musical theatre legend Louise Pitre as Miss Hannigan and two-time Juno-nominee Sterling Jarvis as Oliver Warbucks, along with newcomer Jenny Weisz (RBC Emerging Artist) in the title role, Annie (TYA) is currently playing on the Mainstage at Young People's Theatre in Toronto.

The renowned musical also stars Jess Abramovitch, Mary Antonini, Richard Binsley, Jessie Cox (RBC Emerging Artist), Ramona Gilmour-Darling, Natalia Gracious (RBC Emerging Artist), W. Joseph Matheson, Dale R. Miller, Nicole Norsworthy (RBC Emerging Artist), Natasha O'Brien, and Shawna Van Omme.

Directed by Allen MacInnis, Annie (TYA) boasts a stellar creative team, including Musical Director Diane Leah, Set & Props Designer Teresa Pryzbylski, Costume Designer Melanie McNeill, Choreographer Nicola Pantin, Lighting Designer Michael Walton, Sound Designer Michael Laird, and Stage Manager Kristin McCollum.

ANNIE (TYA) is based on the book by Thomas Meehan. Music is by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin. The show was originally presented on Broadway by Mike Nichols and produced by Irwin Meyer, Stephen R. Friedman, Lewis Allen, Alvin Nederlander Associates, Inc., The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Icarus Productions. Annie (TYA) is based on "Little Orphan Annie®" by Permission of The Tribune Media Services, Inc. and it is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

ANNIE (TYA) continues to play at the Young People’s Theatre on the Mainstage. Due to its overwhelming popularity, the show has been extended until December 29, 2013. There is a break from December 20 to 25. The show resumes Holiday Week – December 26 to 29 with two shows daily. Annie (TYA) is recommended for Ages 5 & up.
