Family Snowshoeing in Toronto and the GTA




Snowshoeing is a wonderful way to get out into a snowy landscape while enjoying nature and hiking with the kids. Snowshoeing allows you to see areas of nature that you wouldn't otherwise be exposed to. It's a great form of exercise and creates a sense of adventure. There are many beautiful areas in the GTA where you can snowshoe. If you can walk, you can snowshoe! Snowshoeing is weather dependent so check ahead for availability and conditions.

Arrowhead

The park offers a variety of hiking/snowshoeing trails as well as a skating trail. There are two warm-up shelters and an open fire pit at the top of the tubing hill!  Operating dates for winter activities run until March 29, 2020. More

Crawford Lake

Crawford Lake (Conservation Halton) offers 8.5 km of trails, where you can discover the origins of snowshoeing in the unique setting of Crawford Lake’s reconstructed 15th century Iroquoian village. Modern aluminum frame snowshoes are available for rent. 3 trails availble from beginner to moderate. More


Mountsberg

Mountsberg (Conservation Halton) offers 7.2 km of trails, for a beautiful snowshoe experience over easy terrain. Bring your own snowshoes and enjoy a day of hiking, then visit the Mountsberg Raptor Centre. 2 trails are available from easy to moderate. Rentals are not available at this park. More


Hilton Falls

There are 16 km of trails at Hilton Falls (Conservation Halton). Put on your snowshoes and discover the beauty of Hilton Falls Conservation Area in a sparkling winter wonderland. The trails are perfect for beginners and families with young children. Warm up at the falls themselves over a bonfire, and hand feed resident chickadees. Ski groomers pack the snow down for a gentler snowshoe hike. If you’re looking to get off the beaten path, trek through onto the Bruce Trail. 3 trails available from moderate to difficult. Rentals not available at this park. More


Horseshoe Resort

Snowshoeing is a great way to work out and enjoy the trails at Horseshoe! You can go for an hour, or for the day. Horseshoe Resort sits on the edge of the Copeland Forest, where you can enjoy snowshoeing for all levels. Visit the Cross Country building to purchase your trail pass, rentals and to pick up a snowshoeing trail map. The resort also offers moonlight snowshoeing, available Saturday nights during the winter on the Alpine side of the resort. More


Scenic Caves Nature Adventures

Snow Valley now offers 17km of trails. Enjoy the white trees, the soft landscape, and all the fun of playing in the snow. Snow Valley offers easily accessible trails for beginners and challenging trails for the more adventurous. There is something for everybody. The interpretive snowshoeing trail combines the orange and green trails to create a 1.6 km long self-guided trail. This trail will guide you through two different types of forests, visiting 8 different locations to discuss unique facts about the wetlands, wildlife, streams and history at Snow Valley. More

Quiet winter wanderers of Wasaga Beach’s of snowshoe trails are rewarded with sights of wildlife, including white-tailed deer and winter birds. The Wasaga Trail Centre offers equipment rentals, light refreshments, and warm-up and outback shelters to warm up a lunch on a crisp winter day. If you are a technological snowshoe enthusiast, Wasaga Beach has trail keys throughout its trail system. Each key has a QR code that allows you to download the trail map onto your phone. Features a 10 kilometre snowshoe trail. Snowshoe rentals are available. Located just north of Barrie. More


Wye Marsh Snowshoe EcoTours

Wye Marsh offers a 3 hour eco-tour offering 4 kilometers of woodlands and wildlife. The event will be held February 29, 2020. You'll get a brief lesson on the art of snowshoeing, then head out in search of the many mysteries that animal tracks and signs present. Hungry chickadees that eat right out of your hand will follow you along the trail! Warm up by the fire for a snack break of bannock, hot chocolate, and tea along the route. No snowshoeing experience required, but note that the trail conditions are considered moderate and at times 'off the beaten path'. Beyond that date, private tours available. More
