Solar Observing at Ontario Science Centre

Safely observe the sun with specially filtered telescopes. Learn about our nearest star and try your eye at spotting exotic surface features, including sunspots, spicules and prominences. This program is offered by members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. Free admission.

Named one of the Top 100 Festivals in Ontario, Winterfest is a great way to celebrate the Winter season with adventures that the whole family will enjoy. Outdoor activities include a polar bear swim, horse drawn wagon rides, dog-sled rides, mini-tube run, lumberjack shows, giant snow slide, ice maze, and more. The Festival of Ice features 300 pound blocks of ice carved into spectacular, themed sculptures. The February Blues Festival features great music in venues throughout Barrie and neighbouring communities. Free admission.
Power Kids: What's In An Image?

Inspired by Leslie Hewitt's exhibit Collective Stance at The Power Plant, this workshop draws inspiration from Hewitt's lithographs, sourced from Civil Rights era photographs housed at the Menil Collection in Houston, Texas. Participants will experiment with perspective by constructing paper viewfinders and then selecting photograph fragments from newspaper and magazine images and use their imaginations to create a new story. Free.

Lowville Winter Games in Burlington
Note: This year, the annual Lowville Winter Games in Burlington will not be held. It's being replace with Love My Hood: a Winter Edition pop-up Neighbourhood Rink Party. There will be up to 18 smaller neighbourhood pop-up events at local neighbourhood rinks throughout the winter with tobogganing and skating (weather permitting), weather-related games, snow painting and snowshoeing. If there's no snow, the events will feature family-friendly lawn darts and a scavenger hunt. No dates or times have been scheduled so visit the website for updates. Free admission.
