Kids Zoo at Toronto Zoo

No doubt about it, the Toronto Zoo is a popular place for children and a must see and do family attraction! But for younger kids who like their nature hands-on, the Toronto Zoo offers a great concept: a Kids Zoo uniquely designed for kids 9 and under. Activities range from the educational to the creative to just plain fun!

The Kids Zoo delivers special programs and interactive experiences made just for kids. There are "close up and personal" animal and staff encounters, touch tables, storyboards, and amazing opportunities for kids to use their creativity and imagination.

Structured into five Canadian habitat sections, each is crammed with family fun and excitement, along with stimulating activities. And, many Zoo Volunteers are on hand to make the kids' experience even more entertaining!

Observing the prairie dogs though plastic tunnels.

In the Canadian Prairies, kids can dig underground right through prairie dog territory and find themselves nose to nose with a black-tailed prairie dog in his plastic tunnel!

The Canadian Forest

The Tree House

Kids can play in the giant sandbox.

The Canadian Forest features a giant aviary with a two-story tree house. Climb to the top for an incredible view. You'll meet a variety of wild birds and animals including skunks, opossum, and rabbits. Zip down the tree house slide or poke your head through the giant rabbit ears, to pose for Mom and Dad. There's even a giant sandbox to enjoy!

The Southern Saskatchewan Desert takes kids to Dinosaur Country! Dig in the giant sand pit for "fossils" or crawl through a giant snakeskin.

The Turtle Eggs in the Wetland Habitat

In the Wetland Habitat, saunter right up to the Muskrat Lodge, play in a fabulous giant bird's nest or touch some turtle eggs where native frogs, toads, and birds have set up their homes.

Pigs in the Backyard Wildlife Exhibit

An Alpaca

A Woodchuck

If you're looking for a "close encounter" of the animal kind, check out the Backyard Wildlife Exhibit where you can meet a miniature pig, goat, and more! Animals have been kept just the right size for children. Kids can also have a climb on the giant spider web or an amazing earthworm.

Splash Island

And for added fun - and close to the Kids Zoo - is the Discovery Zone; the colourful Splash Island with an exciting 2-acre water play area which treats children of all ages to water fun amidst the variety of Canada's wetlands; and the fabulous Waterside Theatre, home of Family Fun Entertainment, which hosts special kid-friendly guests throughout the season.

There is something new to discover every visit!

The Kids Zoo is free with your regular zoo admission. Though the Toronto Zoo is open year-round, the Kids Zoo operates seasonally, usually opening in April and closing in October. Schedule is weather permitting.
