Canadian National Exhibition (CNE)

The Greater Toronto Area's festival season kicks into high gear in August. The hot weather prompts a head-spinning number of fantastic fairs, parades, carnivals, and other fetes. There are favourites we look forward to every year, including the CNE, Toronto Carribean Festival, and Krinos Taste of Danforth — all of which made our list of the top annual festivals.

Here's a list of all the great family festivals in August, most of which are FREE.

Peeks Toronto Caribbean Carnival
Until August 2, 2019
The Peeks Toronto Caribbean Carnival is an exciting four-week celebration of Caribbean music, delicious cuisine and exciting revelry. It is the largest cultural event in Canada and the largest outdoor festival in North America. Free and tickets events. More

Mississauga Latin Festival at Celebration Square
August 2, 2019 to August 4, 2019
The festival offers a stellar entertainment, succulent foods, extravagance gallery art, and activities for children, local talent showcases and a colorful parade a colorful parade with more than 300 typical costumes on Sunday at noon. Free. More

KidZfest at Canada's Wonderland
Until to August 5, 2019
Live entertainment, dance parties, foam pits, and more! Plus, special visits from your favourite tv characters such as Thomas & Friends, Toopy & Binoo, Alvin and The Chipmunks, Bob the Builder, Paw Patrol, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Dora the Explorer, and MARVEL© Superheroes! More

Northern Heat Rib Series
Ongoing until September 15, 2019
Northern Heat Rib Series is Canada’s largest Rib & Craft Beer Series featuring some of the best rib teams in North America. With events across Ontario, they bring you the BEST barbeque and food festival experience! More

Union Summer
Until August 3, 2019
Union Summer - Presented by TD, returns for the annual summer market, bringing together Toronto's top chefs, musicians, film screenings and live performances to Union Station. More

Toronto International Youth Dance Festival
August 2, 2019 and August 3, 2019
The Festival celebrates cultural diversity through the art of dance. The focus is on youth dancers, with participation ranging from local to international dance schools. There will also be food vendors and merchant vendors present through the two days. It is a great opportunity to enjoy a wonderful weekend with your families. Free admission. More

Island Soul Festival at Harbourfront
August 2, 2019 to August 5, 2019
Harbourfront Centre brings the rich legacy of Caribbean music to Toronto’s waterfront with our four-day weekend festival Island Soul. From Reggae star Etana to a night of comedy with Canada’s rising comedians Trixx and friends, join us for a weekend of Caribbean music, food, entertainment and more. Free + Ticketed events. More

Scarborough Ribfest
August 2 to 5, 2019
Ribbers from all over Canada and the US, along with food vendors, a midway, and craft vendors! To keep you cool, beer and coolers along with pop and water will be available at the two Rotary tents. Live bands will be providing live entertainment free during the weekend. Open mike Karaoke will start each day at 11 AM. Free admission. More

Toronto Food Truck Festival
August 2, 2019 to August 5, 2019
Woodbine Park has never tasted this delicious before. Back for another year, The Toronto Food Truck Festival is serving up some real must-eats! As always, admission is free and there’s something for everyone. More

Joseph Brant Day Festival - A Celebration of Burlington
August 5, 2019
The day will feature main stage entertainment, food trucks, free children’s activities by local organizations, a Museums Children’s STEAM zone, a vendor’s market, and community displays. Bring your own water bottle and fill up at the quench cart. Free. More

Grange Festival
August 9, 2019
Free activities, Family Entertainment, Kids zone, Games, Prizes, Hot dogs, and more. The Grange Festival is a summer highlight for families, kids of all ages, and seniors living in the downtown core. Free. More

South Asian Festival of Mississauga
August 9, 2019
The award winning festival of Mississauga is celebrating its 14th year by bringing to you the best of art, culture and cuisine from South Asia. The two day free festival will feature music, dance, folklore, Bollywood, food and shopping in the heart of Mississauga headlined by the popular artists and performers from India, Pakistan, Canada and USA. Habari African Festival at Harbourfront Centre
August 9, 2019 to August 11, 2019
Habari Africa festival is a multi-disciplinary music and arts festival, showcasing an authentic African experience. Through presentations and workshops, celebrate the uniqueness, wealth and diversity of African music, dance, arts and culture. Free admission. More

JerkFest: Jerk Food Festival
August 9, 2019 to August 11, 2019
JerkFest is an annual festival which takes place around the second weekend in August every year. JerkFest celebrates the world renown jerk cuisine. Its a fusion of jerk food, pulsating music, family friendly entertainment and good vibes – all under the Toronto sun. Free admission. More

The Krinos Taste of the Danforth

Pickering Food Truck Festival
August 9, 2019 to August 11, 2019
You’ll want to bring your friends and kids to Esplanade Park for some unbelievable food! We’re transforming the park to a foodie haven, jam-packed with a children’s village, beer garden and live entertainment stage. Feast of St. Lawrence
August 10, 2019

Sweets Food Festival

Acton Leathertown Festival
