Empowering Your Children

Is your child being picked on at school for how he/she looks? Are they overweight, shy, and insecure? Do you ask yourself every night "How do I help my child?"

As a parent we all want what's best for our children. We want our children to succeed, but we need to equip them with the proper tools for victory and not failure.

What is the best way to ensure that our children are proud of who they are and not ashamed; that they embrace what they look like and not coward in? We teach them. We empower them with the proper skills to take life by the horns.

Life isn’t fair... we all know that. Some are rich, beautiful, and skinny, and some are overweight, or struggling day to day to make ends meet. That’s life. How we deal with it is what truly defines who we are – not the way we look but the way we act.

Parents, today I’m talking to you about how to get your overweight, insecure child into an environment where he/she will succeed and triumph over the obstacles set before them. Today we are going to teach our kids how to step outside of their comfort zone, to take a chance and empower them to be the best that they can be.

1. RESEARCH. Parents, this part is in your hands. When joining a facility do some research. Meet the trainers and watch a class. Ask yourself "How would my insecure child feel like walking into this environment for the first time? Scared is ok. So is feeling a little intimidated (only because it’s something new) but would it send them into a downward spiral of anxiety?"

2. ASK if you can have a free trial before you invest the time and money. See how the program fits with your child. See if they can do a one on one class so the instructors can get to know your child. It may cost a bit more, but you can’t put a price on helping your child overcome their fears.

3. PARTICIPATE with your children. What better way to encourage your child than knowing that you are by their side. Be that role model for your child. You may struggle yourself, but that’s the perfect lesson to teach your children. We are not all great at everything but trying and not giving up is the lesson we want them to learn.

4. BUILD a foundation. Start them in a class where they will succeed and grow and move on. It’s not a race. We want our children to thrive and grow in the most positive atmosphere. So if they end up staying in one class longer and not moving up to the next level... SO WHAT? At least they are participating and getting out there.

5. TALK to your children. Ask them what the best part of that class was, and what was the worst part? Engage in conversation and show them that their thoughts and opinions matter.

6. DON’T FORGET TO HAVE FUN. Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, enjoy it! You’re together with your kids. Parents, it is not going be easy, and they will fight you and give you every excuse in the book, but don’t give up. It’s their future that you are working towards.
