New Dr. Seuss Book: What Pet Should I Get?

Get ready to add a new Dr. Seuss book to your child's collection! This Summer, you'll have the opportunity to read What Pet Should I Get, which features the same brother and sister you’ve loved for decades. A brand new, previously unpublished Dr. Seuss book will arrive in bookstores on July 28.

Random House has announced that they will publish this "found" manuscript. They also have two more books in the works, coming at a later date, that are based on materials his widow and secretary found in 2013.

In 2013 Theodor Seuss Geisel’s widow, Audrey, was tidying up his office and discovered the manuscript in a box of Geisel’s sketches and materials. It had been put aside during an earlier home remodel and was hidden away for over 20 years after the author’s death in 1991.

The new book, entitled What Pet Should I Get? is about a thrilling and universal childhood challenge: choosing a pet! The publisher estimates that the manuscript was written between 1958 and 1962, as it features the same adorable brother and sister we know from the Seuss classic One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.

How exciting that today’s young readers (and their parents!) will have the priceless experience of reading a brand new Dr. Seuss book together for the first time. What Pet Should I Get? is destined to become a classic addition to Dr. Seuss’s timeless collection of beloved children’s books.

Will you be incorporating this new book at bedtime reading?
