Sidewalk chalk is a favourite Springtime family activity! Here's how you can make a homemade version of this childhood favourite. Your kids will spend many spring sunny afternoons colouring on the ground!

Sidewalk chalk is easy to make and only requires a few simple ingredients.

You'll need:

1 cup plaster of Paris
1 cup water
Powdered tempera paint
Molds for chalk (small paper cups, paper rolls, popsicle molds)
Mixing bowl and spoon

How to:

In a large bowl, mix the water and plaster of Paris together. Add the powdered tempera paint. Once the paint has been mixed in, let it sit for a few minutes. Pour the mixture into a mold and let it dry. This can take several hours or up to a day, depending on the size of the mold. Once dry, remove the chalk from the mold. If the chalk is still wet, let it air dry for another day or so.

Get creative and try working with different molds to give your chalk fun shapes. Silicon ice cube trays are a great option!
