Local Businesses Offer Free Virtual Activities for Kids




These Toronto and GTA area atttractions and businesses are providing fun and educational online activities for house-bound families.

STEM Minds #Design2030 Challenge
STEM Minds has launched a free 15-day design challenge based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, to provide families with meaningful projects that they can work on over the break. This also increases awareness about the UN Goals and how we all play a part in achieving them. Participants will take part in a variety of daily challenges that ask them to develop solutions to help create a safe, inclusive, and equal future for their generation! More


Colouring the World at Your Feet from Bata Shoe Museum
Colouring isn't just for kids! It's also known to reduce stress and anxiety which is why the BSM has created "Colouring the World at Your Feet". For the next month, they'll be releasing new colouring sheets every Friday that are based on their extraordinary shoe collection. Download the special colouring sheets and share your creations online by tagging them @batashoemuseum and using #BSM. Available from March 14 @ 8:00 am to April 5 @ 5:00 pm. More


Willowgrove Day Camp #CampAtHome Activities
Willowgrove is a Day Camp for children ages 4-15 that provides a unique camp experience on a100-acre private site in Stouffville. The camp blends nature, agriculture, recreation and traditional camp activities for children! The camp is releasing one fun, instructional video per day at 10am on various activities, via their Facebook and Instagram Pages. #campathome


Snapology North York
Every morning at 9:00am, Snapology North York will post Challenges on Facebook. Kids are encouraged to use LEGO and any materials they have available. Comment on the challenge by posting a picture with your child’s build by 5:00pm on Facebook. Include initials, age and name of their creation. The build with the most engagement/likes will be highlighted next day at 7:00pm and WINS a prize each day. There is a final contest where the kids can win a Free week of Snapology Summer Camp. Prizing is only valid for families living in Toronto, North York, Scarborough, and surrounding areas. The company will also be offering on-line classes next week. Keep Calm & Theatre On - A New Virtual Theatre Experience!
Sit back and relax, because Electric Moon Theatre has decided to run a little virtual theatre experiment to spread some joy during this difficult time. Direct from Electric Moon's Isolation Station is KEEP CALM AND THEATRE ON. Share with family, friends and anyone and everyone who loves theatre, needs a little happiness right now, or is looking for some fun arts education activities to keep their kids occupied. More


Gardiner Museum Comes to You
Looking for an art activity to do as a family? The Gardiner Museum is taking their weekly Family Days digital. On Sunday, check their social media channels for an at-home art project based on a simple recipe for salt clay. Then take photos of your work and share them! In the meantime, the museum has uploaded some colouring pages to their website that you can print out for your kids to enjoy. More

Rooks to Cooks Lunch Club: Cooking Videos for Kids
Join the new Rooks to Cooks Lunch Club! Tune in every weekday for a brand new Lunch Club Cooking video via YouTube! Children can follow along at 11:00 am and have lunch prepared and on the table for the whole family by 12:30 p.m. Recipes, Schedule and information available on the Rooks to Cooks Blog. Lunch Club runs Monday to Friday from March 23 to April 3. All videos will be posted and available for free via: www.youtube.com. Recipe reminders will be posted on social media the day before so you can check your pantry for ingredients. Share your Photos or Videos of your child with Rooks to Cooks! Seeing their pupils cooking away in the midst of everything would help brighten our days and continue to motivate the Rooks to Cooks chefs to continue working hard developing more content! Rooks to Cooks Baking Bash Live on Instagram
On Weekends, starting Saturday, March 28th at 2:00 p.m., join Chef Mistry, Lead Chef in Thornhill, as she goes live on Instagram with a Weekend Baking Bash! Children and parents can tune in from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. and Chef Mistry will be teaching awesome baking recipes for kids and families to try, while isolating at home. Get more info and the recipes here.


Camp Tournesol French Workbooks
Camp Tournesol, the leader in French summer camps throughout the GTA, has developed a series of Free French Workbooks on various topics, which kids can use to keep their bilingual skills sharp and widen their vocabulary. More


The STEAM Project Online Design Challenge
The STEAM Project, an educational program for children that takes a project-based approach for teaching science, technology, engineering, art, and math, has launched a series of online design challenges that can get kids excited to learn again! The first challenge in this series will relate to 3D Printing! Kids can learn basics of 3D printing through TinkerCAD (an online 3D design platform), and use STEAM concepts to design a carrier that will protect a Cadbury Creme egg from dropping off the top of our Makerspace building (20 feet!). Three of their favourite designs will be printed and dropped off the top of their building, on live video! Register for the current challenge here. Get info on future challenges here.


Making Music Together Online Music Sessions
Making Music Together is offering Free interactive, livestream 20 minute music sessions online. They will be doing a 10:30am session and likely a shorter 7pm lullaby. Join the Facebook Group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/MMTFAMILIES/.


Magic Languages Free French & Spanish Progams
Magic-Languages will be offering support and online classes to families and students that have been affected by school closures and class cancellations. Sign up for Free French and Spanish programs. More


The CN Tower has posted some colouring sheets online that include some of Toronto’s landmarks. They are based on a photo exhibit at the Tower that was created with the Toronto Public Library. More will be added in the coming days. Look out for activities with the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers. There will be CN Tower trivia and a building challenge – build a CN Tower at home with materials you have on hand. More


Codezilla Slime Workshop + Coding Classes
Codezilla introduces kids 4-14 to coding and STEM using software, apps and award-winning tech toys. They are offering a Slime Makers workshop (ages 5-9). The workshop is free however they are suggesting a donation to the Daily Food Bank or making a small purchase to support local businesses. Held: Saturday, March 28, 2020 from 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm via Zoom. Register here. The school is also offering Game Makers Coding with Scratch | Gr 3-8 (M-F). Learn how to program (code) dynamic video games using Scratch, a kid-friendly programming language created by MIT and used by millions of budding programmers worldwide. Create characters and backdrops complete with graphic, sound and animation - and you can still work on your projects after class! Coding promotes logic, creativity, problem-solving and math skills - plus grit and perseverance! More


Etrack Family Workouts
Etrack is offering family-friendly virtual workouts hosted by their junior development coaches at Etobicoke Track Club via their Facebook Page. These are 30 minute workouts offered 4 days a week at 6:30pm. More
