Paying Tribute on Remembrance Day




This coming Friday, November 11, we pay tribute to the Canadian men and women who served their country with ceremonies to mark Remembrance Day. Below are some of the events taking place in the city. Get your kids involved too. We're sharing links to teach and help kids better understand the meaning behind it.

Remembrance Day Events

Remembrance Day at Fort York
November 11, 2016
Fort York National Historic Site and the Toronto Municipal Chapter IODE (Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire) are proud to present one of this City's most evocative Remembrance Day Services at the Strachan Avenue Military Cemetery on Garrison Common. Commencing at 10:45 am from the west gate of Fort York, a processional, led by period uniformed military staff and standard bearers of the IODE, will make their way to the adjacent Strachan Avenue Military Cemetery, where the public will be gathered.

Downtown Yonge Remembrance Day Service
November 11, 2016
Join the Downtown Yonge business community in remembering the services and sacrifices made by Canada’s war heroes throughout history. On November 11th at 11am bag pipers will be stationed at different intersections on Yonge Street within the Downtown Yonge BIA to play the Lament and to observe the two-minute of silence.

The Toronto Zoo's 31st Annual Remembrance Day Ceremony
November 11, 2016
Veterans and the general public are invited to join us at the Waterside Theatre in remembering and honouring the many wartime sacrifices that Canadians have made for their country. Admission for veterans and all guests attending the ceremony is complimentary admission from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. The year round parking fee will be in effect except for VIP's, Veterans in uniform or with medals, crests or other military affiliation insignia, as well as any other persons in uniform, including serving members of the armed forces, police, fire, ambulance and TTC.
