Thomas & Friends™ Royal Engine Special with Intro from Harry, Duke of Sussex

Thomas & Friends has announced the Thomas & Friends: The Royal Engine animated special in honour of its 75th anniversary. Celebrating the brand’s British heritage, the Royal Engine episode will include a congratulatory introduction from Harry, Duke of Sussex, and features Her Majesty The Queen and HRH The Prince of Wales as a child, as characters. The special will be screened in Canada on Corus Entertainment’s Treehouse on Friday, May 8 at 6:05 pm, and will be available to stream on STACKTV. The episode will also introduce a new character, the Duchess of Loughborough, voiced by “Gone Girl” actress Rosamund Pike.

In the 22-minute special, Thomas the Tank Engine is selected to take Sir Topham Hatt to London to receive a special award from the Queen. But their journey falls into confusion and delay, leaving the two of them dirty and scuffed. Even with the clock ticking, Thomas still makes time to help another engine in distress - who turns out to be very special indeed!

Harry, The Duke of Sussex, said: “Thomas the Tank Engine has been a comforting, familiar face to so many families over the last 75 years – entertaining, educating and inspiring children on important issues through exciting stories and characters. I certainly have fond memories of growing up with Thomas & Friends and being transported to new places through his adventures. I am very proud to have been asked to take part in this special episode. I wish Thomas & Friends a very happy anniversary.”

The Thomas & Friends franchise is known for its core themes of friendship, discovery, and adventure. The 75th anniversary Royal Engine special is an opportunity for families to come together at home to celebrate a momentous milestone for a beloved brand.

Global plans for the Thomas & Friends 75th anniversary include more storytelling touchpoints than ever before with new specials and episodes, exclusive YouTube content, a birthday music album, podcasts for kids in the form of audio stories and all-new book titles along with exciting new partnerships where Thomas & Friends will show up in unexpected places.
