About Art Gallery of Ontario

The Art Gallery of Ontario is one of the largest art museums in North America with art programs and camps, plus special events for families.

More About Art Gallery of Ontario

The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) is an art museum in Toronto's Downtown Grange Park district, on Dundas Street West between McCaul Street and Beverley Street. Its collection includes more than 80,000 works spanning the 1st century to the present-day. The gallery has 45,000 square metres (480,000 sq ft) of physical space, making it one of the largest galleries in North America.

The AGO offers courses and workshops in a fun and supportive environment encouraging young artists (ages 2-18) the freedom to explore their potential, build confidence, and develop artmaking and critical thinking skills. Students have the unique opportunity to learn from Artist Instructors, who are dedicated educators and practicing studio artists. Our approach to art instruction is student led and focuses on traditional and contemporary artmaking techniques and concepts. This learning is supported by strong connections to artwork in the AGO Collection and special exhibitions.

Coming this winter:

For Families

Try a Side-by-Side course in which you and your child explore and make together.

For Children

We have painting, life drawing, drawing explorations and cartooning to deepen your child's observational and creative skills among an intimate group of peers.

For Youth

Life Drawing is an essential technical and observational skill recommended for any foundational studio programs and for those interested in pursuing careers in the creative arts.

We always have fun in the Hands-On Centre - art-making, constructing, storytelling, costume play, making new friends and exploring. Now there is another reason to visit! Join us on Friday morning for a creative story time just for little ones. You'll find art-making and creative play activities for the whole family, from our youngest learner on up! The Dr. Mariano Elia Hands-On Centre is located on the concourse level of the Gallery in the Weston Family Learning Centre.

Family Programs begin in November and run until the end of May. Join us on Family Day or during March Break for art-making and family fun! We also host Family Sundays every Sunday from November to April. These exciting afternoon of art-filled activities are fun for the entire family! Visit our website for more details! The AGO offers family-friendly events throughout the year as well as Birthday Party Packages, Summer Camps, March Break Drop-in Programs and Classes & Workshops for kids.

Art camps that SPARK* your child's imagination!

Be part of an innovative day camp that encourages exciting connections between art, culture, and the city! All camps provide access to the AGO's expanded galleries and enhanced collections, offering an exceptional environment for learning that helps campers explore, imagine and create. Full-day programs emphasize self expression and allow young artists to discover and create in a lively studio environment complemented by outdoor fun in nearby Grange Park. Using original works of art in our collections as inspiration, campers create amazing art projects with a focus on contemporary art-making practice, using a wide variety of media and techniques. Painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, video and digital art are just some of the ways we create in the studio.

We balance the artistic process with a combination of skills development and active play to provide a full experience for even the most energetic and talented camper.

Note: Some programming has been suspended due to COVID-19. Check website for details.
