More About Bata Shoe Museum
Welcome to the Bata Shoe Museum!
Discover the treasures of North America's charming and surprising shoe museum. Hundreds of shoes (from a collection numbering over 13,000) are on exhibit in architect Raymond Moriyama's award-winning four-storey structure. If you're looking for something unique and different to do with your family, daycare or day camp group, we offer activities with a flavour all their own!
Exploring the Galleries
Do you like wandering around and coming across all kinds of neat stuff? Then you'll like All About Shoes, where you'll see some of the most beautiful, most extraordinary, and most surprising footwear that's together in one room anywhere in the world. From an ancient Egyptian sandal to a training boot for space exploration, it's all here. Children will especially enjoy the section called What’s Their Line which features various footwear with a purpose like chestnut crushing clogs and an astronaut’s boot. Do you enjoy learning about how people lived? Our exhibition Art & Innovation features footwear, clothing and tools from the circumpolar regions of Canada, the United States, Greenland, Siberia and Sápmi.
Weekend Family Fun
This is an afternoon where parents and kids can spend time together exploring the galleries and having both a fun and educational experience. Kids can do shoe-themed arts and crafts, try on shoes and go on a treasure hunt inside the galleries! Except on infrequent occasions when it is pre-empted by other programming, Weekend Family Fun is offered throughout the year.
Who says you can't touch at a Museum! Now's your chance to see that ballet slipper, feel that sealskin boot and wear the clown shoe. These hour-long events are offered at different times during the month; see the EVENTS page for details.
An annual family favourite where the Museum is transformed into four floors of activity... with a different theme every year! Join us each year for March Break when we offer new themes and activities. Visit our EVENTS page for more info on each year's activities. Open to daycare groups as well as to parents with children. For more information, please visit our website.
Free & Cheap Outings: Every Thursday evening between 5 and 8 pm, admission is Pay-what-you-can, with a suggested donation of $5.
